Wreath-making Machine

It appears I have a new fascination with wreaths.

There was the heart felt wreath, which was actually my second foray into the wreath arena. (My first wreath was fall-themed and didn't make it to the blog.) It was nearly Valentine's Day, so there was a very limited amount of time for that baby to shine. In fact, I was so disappointed to take it down that I neglected to do so until March. I needed something more permanent, so I made the book page wreath. That sucker was placed above my headboard, and above my headboard it will stay!

This past weekend, I decided to slowly move myself toward Spring. I tend to cling to the last grips of winter - I love the crisp air, the possibility of snow and the ability to wear all the scarves I can get my hands on. But alas, I must make the transition at some point. So I started with a wreath.

This wreath, in fact:

I got the inspiration from this. Instead of getting a Styrofoam wreath form, I went for the super thick cardboard one (since I'm saving the planet and all). Also, I wrapped it in yarn rather than fabric. See...

Do you know how difficult it is to use yarn? I started out wrapping the wreath with the whole skein of yarn circling around the form. What resulted was a tangled mess. It was the perfect project for those people who love untying impossible knots. I, however, am not that kind of person. In fact, I tended to just cut the yarn any time a knot would arise and tie the yarn together on the back of the wreath. Here's a secret - NO ONE is going to look at the back of the wreath. After I wrapped the form twice around (because I'm a glutton for punishment), I then began to make some of the fabric rosettes.

I don't really have "scraps" of fabric lying around because I don't sew (ahem, yet). So I had to get some fabric to make the rosettes. As it turns out, Michael's has color-coordinated strips of fabric ready for me to purchase! I just cut them into 1" strips and started rolling and hot gluing. You see, I'm impatient and wanted to finish this ASAP so I didn't have time to run to get fabric glue. Personally, I blame Hobby Lobby for being closed on Sundays. It's only about 2 miles from my place. Michael's is a good 5, and I wasn't willing to travel to the ends of the earth for fabric glue. So Hobby Lobby, you owe me 4 bandaids to cover the hot glue burns that came with this project.

Remember the part where I said I wanted these time-intensive projects to have more of a lifespan than a month? Well, you can find this in my office:
