Coffee Coffee Coffee

My first experience drinking an entire cup of coffee came during my Sophomore year of college. I had pulled an all-nighter (common for procrastinators such as myself), and I had a Calculus 3 test at 10AM. *nerd alert* Anyhow, I was doing anything short of pinning my eyelids open to stay awake for the final. "I know," I thought. "I'll just grab a cup of coffee from the library. People drink that stuff all of the time for a boost - why shouldn't I?" Well to answer that question in one word: Tweak. To answer that question in more than one word: Holy crap I couldn't hold my pencil straight, I'm fairly certain my leg was about to bounce off of my body, and my brain wasn't nearly settled enough to concentrate. I walked out of the test wondering if I could ever sleep again...

Fast forward 7 years, and here I sit with a cup of coffee resting on the desk in front of me. I'll drink a cup in the morning and in the afternoon with minimal side effects, and caffeine has lost all power on me. But I still love the taste of a good cup. To me, the coffee can't be too dark or it's bitter. It can't be too light, or it loses it's boldness. Add a little bit of CoffeeMate, and we're in business!

However, tragedy struck my workplace a couple of weeks ago. Somehow, someway, the scoop I had become accustomed to using to make coffee in the break room went missing. Now, this shouldn't be a problem because I should have known what the measurement of the scoop actually was. But I didn't. I just knew that 2 1/2 scoops = on perfect cup o' joe. Now the runaway scoop has been replaced by a larger scoop (a.k.a. 1/4 cup measuring cup). Do you understand how much this has impacted the life of my coworkers and me? The first time I made a pot of coffee with the new scoop, I was oblivious to the fact it was a different size. As it turns out - 2 1/2 scoops of the bigger measuring cup = REALLY dark coffee. So I scaled it back the next day to just 1 1/2. Too light. This process has continued for 2 weeks now, and I still haven't been able to make the perfect cup of coffee.

I completely understand your frustration, seeing as I have had the same experience at my own home after the hubby buried our scoop pouring a fresh bag of coffee into the canister, thus forcing me to find another scoop! I guess he gets points for filling the canister, though.
