Read, Currently Reading, To Read: 1

This is the inaugural post about something I haven't done nearly enough of as of late - reading. I love a good book, and finding time to do so was difficult. On the week of my graduation, however, I went to the Ronald J. Norick Downtown Library to get my library card. My friend, Emily, is a librarian there, so we enjoyed a nice meal in the First Edition Cafe before making our way over to secure my library card!

I joined Goodreads a month or so ago, and it encourages me to read more and more. It's a pretty cool little tool where you can connect with friends to see what they're reading, get recommendations, etc. It's like a Netflix queue and Pandora all in one. Check out my profile here. I have a list of books I've already read (and reviewed), a list of books I would like to read, and a list of books I'm currently reading. Don't you judge me on the fact that I'm currently reading three books. Which book I pick up depends on my mood, so I'll finish all three at some point!

Here's my review of the first book I grabbed from the library.

The Sweetness of Salt by Cecilia Galante ★★✰✰✰
This is one of those books you just pick up because you want something light to read. It's description seemed pretty interesting.
"Julia just graduated as her high school valedictorian, has a full ride to college in the fall and a coveted summer internship clerking for a federal judge. But when her older sister, Sophie, shows up at the graduation determined to reveal some long buried secrets, Julia's carefully constructed plans come to a halt. Instead of the summer she had painstakingly laid out, Julia follows Sophie back to Vermont, where Sophie is opening a bakery—and struggling with some secrets of her own. What follows is a summer of revelations—some heartwarming, some heartbreaking, and all slowly pointing Julia toward a new understanding of both herself and of the sister she never really knew."
Although it was a really quick read - each chapter is all of 2-3 pages - the story didn't feel fully developed. The characters were shallow (not in the vain way, in the non-descriptive way), and the plot was pretty dull. I didn't fall in love with this one even a little bit. I do, however, LOVE books with small New England towns a la Gilmore Girls. But, that was pretty much the only thing this one had going for it.

Currently Reading
Belong to Me by Marisa de los Santos
I'm about a third of the way through, and I can't put it down. It's really intricate, and the storyline has me excited and on the edge of my seat!

To Read
I have three books waiting on reserve for me at the Library.

The Geeks Shall Inherit the Earth: Popularity, Quirk Theory and Why Outsiders Thrive After High School by Alexandra Robbins

MWF Seeking BFF: My Yearlong Search for a New Best Friend by Rachel Bertsche

Prep by Curtis Sittenfeld

I also got a book from Casey's mom, so I can't wait to get to that one, too!

The Descendants by Kaui Hart Hemmings

Did you get any books for Christmas? What's on your reading list?
